How to Use Wash Away Stabilizer

Cut a piece of stabilizer slightly larger than the embroidery hoop. Place it underneath the fabric as a backing or above the fabric as a topping, depending on the project.

Hoop the fabric and stabilizer securely, then complete the embroidery. After stitching, trim away any large excess pieces before using water to remove the remaining stabilizer. Allow the finished item to dry completely.

Always test the stabilizer on a small piece of fabric before beginning the final project. Confirm that the fabric, thread and any other materials can safely come into contact with water.

As an Embroidery Backing

Use wash-away stabilizer underneath the fabric when temporary support is needed during stitching but no backing should remain after the embroidery is complete.
